Can’t make up my mind/Fishing trip

I’ve used several different themes lately, trying to find the perfect one. Looking for the one that works well with a photography blog and really makes my photos pop. Well… I changed again. I ended up going back to the theme I originally started with. It’s weird how that works huh? I’ve always heard that you really can’t go wrong with your first choice so in this case, it’s true.

I was looking through some photos I took this past spring and found some from an evening of fishing with a friend. I was working on the gulf coast, staying in my favorite little beach house and invited a friend of mine to do a little fishing. As it turns out, he was doing all of the fishing and I had my camera in hand.. wandering around.. looking for a photo opportunity. It was in the evening and the light was great but I was having trouble finding anything to shoot. I took four pic’s! This is probably the fewest pic’s I’ve ever taken at one time. I usually end up looking through the hundreds of pic’s I’ve taken, sorting out the best ones. But I will also say, all four pic’s were keepers which is a miracle in itself.

You’ll notice my fishing pole is setting out there all alone while I’m wandering around like a little kid. LOL.. Apparently the fish weren’t biting or my camera would have been laying on the dock and my pole in my hand. And next time I’ll remember to pick up the beer!!PICT0088PICT0004PICT0064PICT0044

Sometimes you just have to do it.

I’ve been talking about getting out with my camera more often but there always seems to be a reason not to. Well today I was waiting in line at the pharmacy for my flu shot. There must have been 15 people in line! Anyway.. after about ten minutes I decided that if it took each person 5 to 6 minutes to get their shot, I would be waiting for well over an hour and let me tell ya, there are a lot of other ways I’d rather be spending MY hour. I also thought it shouldn’t be so busy around 4:00 or so, once the senior citizens have finished and were back home.

Out comes the camera! There is an awesome lilly pond park between my house and the pharmacy and I had my camera gear with me so off I went. The sun was getting high in the sky so I only had about 20 minutes to get in some decent pic’s. The bees were everywhere and it was hard to get a shot without one or more trying to get in the frame. I thought my neice was bad. lol… The park as been expanded over the past few years to over double it’s original size. The pic’s you see of the pond is just one portion. I’d say it’s a good two akers in size. I ended up taking about 100 pic’s. Not bad for 30 minutes worth of work, huh? Most of them I filed away for later use but I wanted to post a few….9-15-09 three9-15-09 five9-15-09 four9-15-09 one9-15-09 two9-15-09 six

Sometimes it’s hard to think ahead. Trying to think too far into the future gives me a brain strain but I do have some ideas about what the future holds. If you watch tv and listen to all of the radio talk shows, we’re a country that’s headed for doom. I like to think we’re a bit smarter than we give ourselves credit for. Surely we’re not going to let things get so far out of wack that we totally destroy ourselves.

These are my thoughts about the future…. I think things will get worse BUT at the same time they will get better. Look at your parents. According to them, “we” were going to be the death of everything and their parents said the same about them and now we’re saying the same about our kids generation. Things will constantly be changing, it’s just hard for a single generation to change with it. This is why change comes so slow and comes in generations.

I heard a story about how hard it is for humans to make changes no matter how small and it goes something like this. (please don’t quote me as I’m not 100% sure about the exact details) The railroad tracks that modern trains use in America today are 4′ 8 1/2″ apart. Do you know why? Well it seems that when we started building tracks for our trains here in the USA we built them in the same distance apart as the europeans because our trains were designed after the trains in europe. Why were the tracks over there 4′ 8 1/2 ” apart? Well it seems they designed and built the trains on the same wheel base as the carriages and wagons. Why were the carriages and wagons designed and built with a 4′ 8 1/2 ” wheel base? Because they needed the wagons and carriages to fit in the wheel ruts of the roads. Why were the ruts in the road 4′ 8 1/2″ apart? Because the earliest two-wheeled carts that made the ruts had a wheel base of 4′ 8 1/2″. Think about the Roman chariots…?

So how do you tie this topic back to photos? I don’t know but I’m going to post a few anyway.

We happend to be at a birthday party this weekend and I’ve never seen a portable water slide like this. This thing was Huge! My first thought was “we didn’t have anything like this when I was a kid”. Do you see the generational thing here? lol.. Below is a photo of my son and nieces landing in the pool below the slide. How much fun would this be??PICT0110PICT0136PICT0094

A new start

I havn’t posted in such a long time that I decided to start fresh. Last year I was all fired up about my photography and the chance to share some of it with other people. So with the encouragement from my beautiful bride I started this blog and opened not one but two stores, not realizing how much time it would actually take to do this. It’s hard enough to run a business which is what I do in the “real” world, but add in the work it takes to open two online stores and keep up with a blog…… whew! I just couldn’t keep up and over time I had pretty much given up.

Baby steps…. That’s what I was thinking when I wanted to start up my blog again. Yes, I would love to share some of my photography with everyone but I don’t have the time or the energy it takes to open a store. I thought it would be great to start posting random photos and if there’s any requests you may have just ask. If there is something you would like to see and I happen to have it, I’ll post it and if I don’t, it will give me a reason to get my camera out and start shooting.

Maybe one day I’ll decide to sell some of my work or even start taking photos for a living but for now it just sucks the fun out of it! lol… So until I have more time I’m going to keep it fun! I hope you like some of the stuff you’re going to be seeing and if you do, let me know.

The photos below are from my latest trip. They were taken while I was working down on the gulf coast. Black & white is something I love doing. If I’m taking landscapes I like to take them in color and black and white. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken a color photo and ended up changing it to black & white using photoshop.PICT0146PICT0003PICT0082
